Tropical Bird of Paradise

This is a watercolor painting of a tropical bird-of-paradise flower found growing throughout the Hawaiian Islands in landscapes and yards. The vividly bright plumage and form of a bird resemble the shape and bloom of the flower, hence the name of the flower. I spotted this spectacular flower while visiting the Wahiawa Botanical Garden located on the Island of Hawaii. I immediately took a photograph so that I could later recapture its beauty in a painting.
